New York Car Accident Lawyer Paul Ajlouny of the NY Law Firm Ajlouny Injury Law weighs in on this tragic accident.

“This unfortunate accident appears to have been caused by excessive speed. A safe speed should always be maintained while driving on any highway transportation. In most accidents speed is the reason for most traffic accidents. Other factors for highway accidents include weather related hazards (icy roads), distracted driving, fatigue and drinking. Condolences are offered out to the Santana family. Our prayers and hearts are with the family.” says Mr. Ajlouny.

2017 Vision Zero Progress

In 2017, under leadership, our work helped fuel a historic drop in pedestrian fatalities through a record number of street safety redesigns & turning treatments, & by reprogramming traffic signals to give pedestrians a head start .

These figures prove that for New York City’s pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, Vision Zero is the only way forward. According to the mayor 2017 was the safest year on record! The streets of New York City have been the safest they’ve ever been since 1910.

The city reports that last year, there were 214 traffic fatalities, of which 101 were pedestrian deaths. In 2016, there were 231 total fatalities, with 148 being pedestrians. The Department of Transportation and the NYPD also report that there was one fatality among school-aged pedestrian children, the fewest ever in the city for children under 17. All boroughs, apart from Brooklyn, saw fewer traffic deaths and Queens experienced the fewest fatalities ever.

“Yes, the Vision Zero Initiative under Mayor de Blasio, in New York has been very aggressive”according to New York Car Accident Lawyer, Paul Ajlouny. “The city has done that with safer street design and safer traffic signals, not with “distracted walking” crackdowns. There is still a lot of work to do. Statistics in 2017 show that 23 cyclists lost their lives on NYC streets due to speeding vehicles.

In an increased Vision Zero push, the city kicked off a series of new safety and road improvement projects last year that included the installation of 25 miles of protected bike lanes, continuing the redesign of Queens Boulevard, and adjusting traffic signal phases to align with the city’s 25 MPH speed limit.

A woman was critically injured when she was struck & pinned between two taxis on a Midtown Manhattan st.

“wrecks like this sadly may have been the result of icy road conditions, New York car accident lawyer, Paul Ajlouny said ” — “However cabbies in poor weather conditions still have a responsibility to use caution and not drive too fast and carelessly.  Irresponsible cab drivers can as seen here seriously injure innocent bystanders or even take someone’s life.”
