Cross Bronx Expressway Fatal Chain Reaction Crash

A multi vehicle accident on the Cross Bronx Expressway in the early morning commute has taken the lives of  three people, injuring five others, three seriously, in the Bronx Tuesday morning.

The accident happened in the northbound lanes at Webster Avenue involving two tractor-trailers, a car, and a pickup truck. The chain reaction accident fist started when one of the trucks stopped abruptly in the middle of the highway.  A Ford pickup truck stopped immediately behind that 18-wheeler. Then a second 18-wheeler traveling in the same direction, failed to  stop hitting both the Ford pickup truck and also a Toyota Corolla.

The Toyota Corolla ended up on the center divider of the highway, and the pickup truck was wedged under the second tractor-trailer.

Three of the five people inside the pickup truck were pronounced dead at the scene. Two have been identified as 51-year-old Henry Walker, of Livingston, New Jersey, and 21-year-old Khalil Walker, of Tobbyhanna, Pennsylvania.

The identity of the third man has not been released pending family notification. Two other victims were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the Toyota was also seriously hurt, while two occupants of the second tractor-trailer suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

LIE deadly crash cause, excessive speed.

Speed has been determined to be a factor in the LIE deadly crash that has taken the lives of 6 people. Authorities believe that 26 year old Carmelo Pinales may have been speeding at a rate of 100 miles per hour.

Scene, victims in Long Island Expressway crash

A former aid to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, 29 year old Scott Martella of Smithtown, was among the victims who were killed in the accident. The accident occurred Sunday morning around 9:30 a.m, near Exit 68 on the LIE.

Scott Martella was driving in the westbound lane of the Long Island Expressway near Exit 68 in Manorville, NY. with his fiancee, 29 year old Shelbi Thurau. As they were driving an eastbound Subaru went airborne and landed in the westbound lane. Their car was crushed.

The driver of the Subaru according to witnesses apparently lost control of his vehicle, which crossed over the grassy median, went airborne and struck two vehicles, a BMW and a Honda, that were traveling westbound.

The Subaru was driven by 26 year old Carmelo Pinales of Hicksville. His sister Patricia Pinales was in the passenger seat and his 10 year old son in the back. Scott Martella, Carmelo Pinales and Patricia Pinales all were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Pinales 10 year old son, Christopher, later died from his injuries at the hospital. Shelbi Thurau, Scott’s fiancee survived.

The BMW was driven by 73 year old Marvin Tenzer. He was with his wife Sandra and another couple: Helen and Isidore Adelson. Mr Adleson died from his injuries yesterday night and the rest of the BMW occupants sustained injuries. His wife Helen, succumbed to her injuries and has also passed. Witnesses who saw the Subaru passing them before the accident said the car “was flying”.

Relatives of the Pinales’ family say they believe an earlier accident left an oil spill, which contributed to the crash.

Van Wyck Expressway multi car crash

NEW YORK — A multi-vehicle crash occurred early Monday morning on the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens.

The accident happened on the entrance ramp from Atlantic Avenue to the southbound Van Wyck Expressway.

A police car was responding to a two-car accident when it was struck from behind by another vehicle.

The Two officers suffered neck and back injuries.
