SUV Car Crash

Staten Island Crash. Passenger in Corolla in critical condition.

A Staten Island Car Crash leaves a 27-year-old man was in critical condition after an SUV smashes into the sedan he was a passenger in on Staten Island early Sunday, according to  police.

The 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee driving on Richmond Road steered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on into the 2005 Toyota Corolla near Hunton St. in Todt Hill early morning Sunday.

The passenger of the Toyota was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital North listed in critical condition. The collision sent the smaller sedan nearly 180 degrees,  stopping partially mounted on a curb. Emergency responders had to pry the front and rear driver’s side doors off to rescue the Toyota driver, a 28-year-old woman.

The woman and the Jeep’s driver, a 40-year-old man, were also taken to Staten Island University Hospital North and listed in stable condition, according to police.

A pair of eye glasses sat on the ground outside the Jeep, amid the twisted plastic and shattered glass that was scattered around the area.

It’s  been reported by police that expected charges would be filed against the driver of the Jeep.

“It’s  obvious due to the statement by the police  that charges will be filed indicates that the driver of the SUV was impaired at the time.” states New York car accident lawyer Paul Ajlouny.

“This is Driving while under the influence is a recurring problem in our society today. Impaired  drivers are a danger to other drivers, passengers and pedestrians.  This is a selfish and reckless act by the SUV driver in this tragic incident.  It’s  almost impossible that two moving vehicle going less than 25 mph on a clear day with no traffic are going to collide UNLESS alcohol is involved.

The repeated message of  **Don’t Drink And Drive**  just doesn’t seem to work.  Innocent lives are lost due to the reckless act of on very stupid person. I am an advocate of  prison time in a circumstance like this.” suggests Mr. Ajlouny.

Geovanni Balverdy, a passenger in the Nissan, was rushed to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, but did not survive.

The Nissan’s driver, was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

The 29-year-old Kia driver and her passenger, 21, were both taken to Brookdale University Hospital and were listed in stable condition.

Paul Ajlouny,  New York car accident lawyer, offers his take on this accident. “Anytime Firefighters use ‘jaws of life’ to free trapped passengers, you know that the outcome will not always be good. Rescue workers that help car accident victims will use a hydraulic tool called the Jaws of Life to cut apart steel to free people trapped inside damaged cars after a bad crash.” says Mr.  Ajlouny.

The passenger’s side of the coupe was completely crush inwards from the force of the collision vehicle parts flying and scattering down the road, at least 50 feet away. Twisted metal and glass were scattered throughout the accident site.

el_marie26 What a shame that you knew better and the rules of the road and your friend couldn’t… And, you just recently put this up…. Such a shame to lose a life not worth losing during a new year. You were so young and had your whole precious life to live. I didn’t personally know you or your family but I am too familiar to tragedies as such for many years now. May your family find it in their hearts to forgive and may God grant them the strength they need to heal and continue on in life in a positive light. May you rest in the sweetest of peace. I will pray for your family and friends.
